Runners raise $15,000 for SCV Food Pantry

SANTA CLARITA – The 12th annual Run Against Hunger, held Sunday, raised more than $15,000 for the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry, a record for the event. Organizers boasted a turnout of 332 runners and walkers. The overall male winner was Dale Hays with a time of 17:04 and the overall female winner was Jessica Gomez with a time of 19:05. The team award for the group with the most participants went to Sierra Vista Junior High, which entered 37 runners. After the 5K race, which started and ended at Newhall Park, news anchor Rick Chambers presented awards to the winning runners in each age category. In addition, the pantry also serves an average of 130 senior citizens each month. “Our volunteers are the people who make the pantry and all of our events such as the Run Against Hunger such successes,” executive director Belinda Crawford said. “We are especially grateful to our race coordinators, Laura Morefield, Jan Fear and B.J. Inman. These coordinators and all of the volunteers that work at our events are motivated by the commitment that no child in the Santa Clarita Valley should go to bed hungry.”last_img read more
